Postgameby Thumper: "Hats off fellows.
In a nutshell, Section8 showed up with 10 - Sean, Robert, Steers,
Kyle, Chappy, Brad, Wayne, Ross, Jerremy and me.
We played for the Americans with SCBrian of Roadkill playing XO.
Im guessing we ran and accomplished at least 8 missions Saturday
and 7 on Sunday. Im not sure about Sat night. I know we failed at
2 getting there late, and I know we robbed the germans of 4.
The final score was something like 4200 us to 4100 them. My gut
says we completed a ton more missions than the germans.
Steers walked away w/ MTP and Sean walked w/ the purple heart award.
We ran w/ Grendel, Brian, Rasta, Rich, Tom Madden, Blake and Matt
Cosgrove of Roadkill. For the most part I was running this two team
union when we got a mission working w/ Brian as XO and the general
to a lesser degree.
Jason "Junkie " of the JAPS ran with us most of the time.
Saturday night we sat down at Brecks and like 16 of us sat down
together for a carnage fest.
We ran good, creating squads ad-hoc and splitting into 2 groups
many times to run concurrent missions. I ran steers like a mad-dog
fetching mission cards, reconning areas, etc. Well done sir Steers.
Robert also proved to be a one man mission maker I could count on.
3 missions were coming in every half hour dispatched from the C&C
hut, and the cards had to be delived and completed at the objectives
before they expired in 30 minutes. Skeeter wrote these where the
closeby stuff was long durations but for little value (20 minutes,
20 points typical). The far missions were high value and short duration
(50 to 70 points, 10 minutes typical). Any delay would kill a far
mission, and we got pretty good at bypassing distractions. This
alone won the war for our side. We almost always took two mission
cards with us, kitting objectives like Tannis, Well of Souls, Chairo,
Nepal, Burial Grounds, The Tabbernacle.
For the most part the enemy side was composed of 80% speedballers
and 20% newbies, but ironically they were very slow reaching their
objectives. In the woods we typically killed them. It was like they
were terifiied to go in the woods unless Steve was leading them.
For the most part our side was composed of pump players with Roadkill,
Section8 and GMK leading the way.
Most of the time I would guess around 80 players on the field.
Skeeter reported 85 preregistered. There we around 80 at the safety
briefing, and maybe 70 at closing ceremonies. Official count was
150, but I think this may have had some magic dust applied.
My scoreing of us:
Teamwork : A (we did all with every good technique and teamwork)
Dedication / Committment : B (we lost contact with a few players
fairly regularly, likely due to poor communications. See below.
Communications: C+ -- this needs work. See below:
Teamwork: I was very pleased with everyone's technique and teamwork.
We worked well in many ways, and from a purely form perfective Ill
give us an A. Very good job.
Communications: If we communicate very well, we can leave most
of our team forward deployed midfield, have a runner or small group
pick up the mission cards, and then rapidly move the forward group
to the mission, later relaying the card team there in a pre-secured
area.
If we communcicate poorly, the best strategy is everyone return
to base after every mission so we can reorganize and refocus on
the next mission. Of course this slows down our reaction time and
wears us all out. Poor communications hurts everyone.
Dedication: one 10 minute break every 2 to 2 1/2 hours is good.
One 30 minute break every hour is not good - everyone else must
carry your load. Yall try hard and think about staying on the field
as much as possible, and on mission - not hanging out off field
or chasing rabbits. We ran at least 17 missions. If you dont know
what im talking about, this applies to you. To those who did double
duty, thank you. Section8 is a bit more serious about playing to
win than some of the other teams. Hanging out and telling stories
is great fun, but please try doing it on the field or after the
game is over. There are teams who prefer the hang out thing over
playing to win - and if you think that is for you, I understand.
This is a game - and to each his own. But Section8 is a team, and
I need teammates dedicated to helping their teammates 100%.
