Postgame by Thumper:
Section 8 was on the north and Pumba was the General. We ran
out of "south base"
We made our case against ramping and modes, and the dangers
it imposed in the weeks before the game. The field managers wanted
the paint sales and were too naive to see past this, and as a
result things got out of hand. I hope they learned.
What I did see early on, and did not say anything was how
Del put so much faith in pumba's troops and SC Pirates. and my
prediction that from his error in judgement would result in the
norths line getting mowed repeatedly. I knew the problem was there
weeks before the game started and I didnt care enough to help
Del. My plan around this was to stay out of the middle, let the
mow fest proceed and we could work the edges.
What I underestimated was the complete no-show by the northern
core groups of players that were to represent the main body of
troops. I also underestimated the northern players lack of understanding
of the importance of the map and how to use it. No member on SC
Pirates, and Night Fall had a clue about using the map. Not one.
At least thats how it seemed to me.
I had no intention of bailing Pumba out, or intending to lead
or try to lead this lost effort. But somehere in this debacle,
as Jose Wales put it, "you just gotta get mad dog mean"
- and thats what we did.
- and we paid the price as fun gave way to anger.
I must assume some responsibility for this loss of fun for
my troops, but I do also hope that you ALL picked up on my predictions
of the possible outcome and saw this as a possibility. For any
section 8 who didnt read between the lines at the likely outcome
of this event and were suprised : I appologize.
To my brothers who didnt make this event : You had more fun
than I.
The only saving face saving grace for the north is the now
infamous Deebo Pic. Man that was a beautiful assault. Like some
sic ballet. We worked on it for at least 40 minutes, but executed
it in 15 second on the 3rd effort.
I know I had to scare the crap out of spook and the riot boys
up there at the lego. Hell, I even scared myself.
ps: The guy who said he got shot 5 times point blank had one
break on him, through the heart center mass. And he was clearly
unplugged and marker down claiming to be previously eliminated
after being completely owned.
I may have shot twice, but I only think once. about 8 feet
is my best guess. It happened pretty quicky and I was using my
pump wanting to be quiet and remain hidden.
The other two guys were equally suprised and owned. Both markers
down and unplugged, but claiming to be eliminated. (Sounds like
Spy crap to me) -- ALWAYS HAND TAG SPIES or shoot them in the
foot. I made a judgement call, guessing neither of those guys
had the sportsmanship necessary to be shot for cheating/stupid,
so I hand tagged them - Its the gentlemanly thing to do. I later
hear one wants to call the sherrif and file assault charges against
me for pushing him. He stepped back to avoid the hand tag (also
a SPY manauver) confirming his live player status. His pushing
claim is a lye. As he stepped back I touched his jersey with 4
fingers and only touched something solid with my middle finger
as he quickly stepped back and away.
Steers reports he had hand tagged these two players just moments
before. They were on their way to spawn by my guestimation.
The question is: Who shot Deebo? Was it one of these three
guys?
------------------------------------------------------------------
Deebo : Nice job on the flag grab. Chappy got the pic of its
return !!!
Robert: You are a freaking animal! You are my brother in arms.
Steers : Excellent leadership in a futile effort. You are
a different man than the guy trying to run Ball Busters. I also
see great increases in overall maturity as a player.
William: Every time I saw you on the field you were playing
good ball. This was not the best game to really help work you
into Section 8 style - so dont try and read too much into this
game.
Chappy/Kyle: Nice work when we had you with us, and I missed
you the last hour or two. I know PAYBACK was a motivator, but
I did need the help at games end.
Jordan: Impressed the hell out of me. Chappy: please make
sure he has access to this forum.
Animal: I know you had guests and Im sorry we didnt get a
chance to run more together. Lets see what we can do at PBC in
november.
LB : Solid stuff bro. Thanks for the extra effort.

Way to go Debboo!!! -did ya hear the frequent transmissions
by thumper, "KEEP GOING!!!"? lol
In the face of a hopeless situation, I'm proud to say that
Section8 did extremely well.
I know we accomplished something that some of us didn't know
was possible. As far as leadership went, Deeboo, you did awesome,
it was good to have you with me when it was just us in the suck-pushing
the pirates through, for delegation, though thumper may dissagree,
we were doing a decent job through some of the middle missions
of the day (where we were running the radar station and fuel dump).
Robert, you deserve the section 8 medal of valor!!! You were
always there to save the day and appeared right were we needed
you most. HARD CORE DUDE!!! I heard the outrageous report of how
many shots you had on your back-what was the final number? Great
Job!!!
I half expected little William to bug-out under the intense
firefights. I've never seen someone as young as him right by my
side when everyone else was leaving. He did whatever he was asked
and willingly came forward and joined me and deeboo in the hopeless
situations we found ourselves in. He charged forward, gave good
cover fire, and moved with the group. I rarely saw him in the
compound and was ready to go when everyone else was.
GREAT JOB BUDDY!!!!
Thumper, you certainly display a measure of self control in
keeping your mouth shut and not saying what everyone wants to
when things go extremely bad. In doing so, I for one, am held
to the same expectations of a gentlemen playing paintball while
on the field. You certainly led the way as you ran forward and
everyone else took cover in fear. I know you got tore up with
the ramping that went on and I am very glad to see the victories
nearing the end of the game come through.
Despite our losses, great teamwork under the most intense
and stressful game I've ever attended was seen and much was learned
from this event.
Great Job everybody!!!
Deebo adds
I had fun at this event, but I think its because I haven't
played paintball in 3-4 weeks. So I was jacked up and ready to
go. If you went to PBC, thought that was fun, and then came here
and saw it not as good, then I can see where you might not have
had fun. I did though.
Spook, that was tough near that second remote staging area,
when we were defending the cemetary. About 20 guys behind that
thing, that was no good. But we encouraged them enough to go get
some trees, which I liked to see. I think South was using their
medics a little cheatingly, as we were walking to the medic for
aid. Oh well, I did it once, then thought about it a little and
had to walk to the radar tower the next time i was shot.
Ramping sucks for scenarios. It did cause many problems, and
its just not how I see paintball being played. From the first
assault (A1) I saw us holding the red triangle pretty well. Me
and steers had a pretty good view of the field (and William).
Then, after we shot many of them out, the south got together,
and then came at us with about 300 bps. No way I or anyone can
compete with that, unless we have 15 paint throwers with us. And
that was the way of things for the most part of the Oh well, that
could have been much better.
It was fun running with all Section 8 members. Hope the next
one can go a little more our way, and our style.
Congrats on our Team award though. Congrats Chappy on getting
in.
LB adds
Hey guys...just wanted to get the chance to say thanks for
making the most with me of an otherwise pretty harsh game all
around. I never got the chance Saturday to talk to many of you
afterwards. The truth is that I took an absolute pounding that
last hour and finally came off the field at 5:50 with no paint
and no air and after being overshot, reinserting, and overshot
again for about 45 minutes. I did my best to keep my mouth shut
about it in the public forum, but it was pretty ridiculous. So
I threw my stuff in the bag and got out of there.
Anyway, I had a generally good time. Robert, you're my man.
The rest of you, it was good to play with you.
Looking back, I can remember one of my more proud moments.
When I first got to Triggertyme, one of the very first things
that was said to me was by Kyle...he told me that I should set
my gun up to ramp, because everyone was doing it. So I did. But
I never once used it until around 3:00 PM. I was standing with
Steers and we were behind a safe area net and we decided to go
out into what turned out to be a maelstrom. I came around the
corner and ran into about 7 guys all within 50 feet. I was in
the wide open, so I let loose until my hopper was empty and ran
back around the net. Shot 3 for sure and backed up the other 4.
Steers looks at me and says he had no idea I had that kind of
firepower. Not to blow my own smoke, but if ramping is going to
be done, that's how it's done.
As a side note, this is the first time I've ever felt that
ramping detracted from the fun of the event. Honestly, I don't
really mind the safety issues or the skill issues. It just makes
a more fun game without it.
Aerion Adds
It's interesting to read the after action reports and see
quite a few of those who favored ramping before the scenario now
re-thinking the issue. Ramping markers have recently become cheap
enough that more and more players are buying them. It seems that
now ramping is hitting the critical mass to start to cause glaring
problems. I hope that the experience with this scenario will prompt
other producers and field owners to seriously consider restricting
them at future scenarios.
