Missions Summary : Germans

Time Issued Destination Runner / Leader Status
Sat
12:00 Siboda

Thumper / Section8, Brute Force : early insertion - hold Siboda at 1pm. We took the area from 30+, held against 3 counter assaults, and fell at 12:55 with reinforcements just moments away. We did take Tractor Factory away from them and held on to GunMt #2 at the last moment. Our reinforcements were just a minute too late. Technically we denied the Russians 2 objectives, but they completed 1.

Kurb: the russian general adds "First hour actually didn't go that bad for the russians so far as I know. We lost Simboda and Gun Mt2 right off the bat, when who ever was right below Stallingrad decided to not attack and head that way instead. Luckly we got one of then back.... My biggest mistake IMO was never getting some re-enforcments over to the tank factory, those guys did awsome for never getting any back up sent."

Mission failed - Ref:Ben

no missions : I heard game on at 9am and we were switching bases. at 8:30 I swept the parking lot looking for germans and made contact with around 200 german players and reminded them we were playing out of the swamp base, and to head that way in 10 minutes. Later the Russian General is quoted as saying "Sunday AM we started out undergunned, and it turned out to set us into a hole I didn't think we could crawl out of."

Thumper : "As I walked on the field at 8:59 I was please to see maybe 75 germans ready and chomping at the bit. Almost all of the gunkings were ready and village bound. A.N. and Section8 ready to take the mounds area. It is quite true, the early bird gets the worm"

Thumpers AA Summary:

By my count, Section8 lead and or significantly assisted in on over 20 missions, failed 3, completed 17 in all parts, and purposefully denied the enemy in 7 or more of their mission objectives. We also recovered numerous props including 2 of the gold bars.

Of the 3800 total points we had a direct hand in over 1900 of those and denying the Russians over 700 of their points.

By my estimation, we were underutilized by our C&C and ran at 60% capacity the whole game. I think this was largely due to several things :

1) Scott likes to use his own troops a lot.
2) I don't think we have earned his trust yet.
3) Most of our night players took the night off.
4) The German command did not communicate well with us. We basically had to hijack the information we did get.
5) We could not reach many of our players via radio.

I think we did a few things very well.

1) We stayed on the field - a lot. It was pretty rare our campsite had anyone in it during the game.

2) Team work : when the shooting started, our little kill teams did a great job working together in supportive fire.

3) Team Commo : Those who had UHF radios put them to good use. plenty of room for improvement, but overall much improved.

4) Leadership in Depth : Robert, Sean, Steers, Sarge all stepped up when things needed to get done... I held steers and myself back some to exercise this element of Section8 and the team stepped up. I think our practice format works well in forcing everyone to lead when something needs doing.

5) Numbers : 25 ? - wow.

6) Without orders : It is amazing that operating without orders from our command staff we put the points on the board we did.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think we made numerous errors that we need to work on:

1) MEDIC USAGE: When we have an objective to hold and plenty of troops to hold it, and we must hold it against numerous assaults, we MUST keep our defensive lines in range of the medics - and those medics must have reliable communicaions and be quick and aggressive.

2) UNPROVEN GEAR: Gear brought to the battle needs to be tested weeks before the event. That is what practice is for. The guys who practice alot did not have gear problems.

3) C&C COMMUNICATIONS: Our relationship and communications w/ the general staff was attrocious and frusterating. Part of this could not be helped, but the room for improvement is huge. Sarge was off the field at game start fixing guns and crap. This cost us momemtum in gaining command staff trust and resulted in our being underutilized for the entire game. I dont think we gained sufficient TRUST w/ Scott.

4) TEAM COMMUNICATIONS: The loaner gear worked our ok, and the new FDC radios worked out also. We need to get everyone radio equipped soon so we can have loaners for the exceptions and not the rule.
